Have you figured out all the Old Testament sacrifices? The altar of burnt offering daily, Peace offerings, Sin offerings, Trespass offerings, Wave offerings, Heave offerings. The list in the Old Testament is long and complicated. Probably took a Hebrew young person an entire Hebrew school experience to begin to understand them all. The system was COMPLICATED. They were commanded to offer these offerings continually. It didn’t matter if it was raining, snowing, sunshine or clouds, the offerings must be presented to a Holy God. Didn’t matter if you were depressed or joyful, sick or well, discouraged or rejoicing. Each individual offering must be presented as instructed to be accepted by God.
Fast forward to Calvary. All the offerings were completed forever in Him.
Now let’s read Hebrews 13:15: “Paul writes * “by him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name”.
Complicated? Most certainly not. But just the same, the sacrifice of praise is to be offered continually, rain or shine, sick or well, depressed or joyful. Will the sacrifice be accepted by a Holy God? You can have every assurance it will be as long as Jesus remains risen from the dead and seated at the fathers right hand interceding for you and I.
Job. after losing all his children says “The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord”. Job 1:21
What’s the best thing to do when things aren’t going your way? Offer a sacrifice. A sacrifice of praise.
*(I believe Paul wrote Hebrews)
